Michigan Industrial Hygiene Society
AIHF Donation Letter from MIHSS - October 30, 2007

October 30, 2007

Mr. David Downs, PresidentAmerican Industrial Hygiene Foundation
Local Section Scholarship
2700 Prosperity Avenue
Suite 250
Fairfax, VA 22031

Dear Mr. Downs

The Michigan Industrial Hygiene Society, the first local section of the American Industrial Hygiene Association, would like to create a "Named Endowed Scholarship". We would like to call this scholarship:
"The Michigan Industrial Hygiene Society Merit Scholarship".

We would like the following criteria applied to the scholarship:

The scholarship shall be awarded to Michigan residents, studying industrial hygiene, attending either Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan, or The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor Michigan. We reserve the right to expand the number universities included in this list should the amount of the endowment be capable of supporting a broader scope, or the number of universities that qualify for an AIHF scholarship increases.

Enclosed with this letter are checks or pledges to complete the endowment totaling $25,000.00. Details for this amount are as follows:

The Foundation should have already received a $5000.00 check in the name of the Michigan Industrial Hygiene Society scholarship endowment fund from Patricia Brogan, PhD.

Mr. Roger Wabeke has donated $5000.00 to this endowment fund. His check was made out to the Michigan Industrial Hygiene Society. Our Treasurer has cashed this check and this amount is incorporated into the MIHS check to the Foundation.

The Foundation should very shortly receive a $2500.00 check from the Hawaii Local Section that is directed to the Michigan Industrial Hygiene Society scholarship endowment fund. This is a donation to our scholarship endowment fund from Steve Levine, PhD.

A check to the American Industrial Hygiene Foundation from Sarunas Mingela that is to be directed to the Michigan Industrial Hygiene Society endowment fund.

A check from the Michigan Industrial Hygiene Society for $16,500.00 that includes the previously mentioned $5000.00 from Mr. Wabeke and completes the endowment.

Should you have any questions, please contact me at 313.805.7996.

AIHF Letter Regarding the
"Michigan Industrial Hygiene Society Merit Scholarship"

(Received via email.)

Sharkey, thank you and the Michigan Industrial Hygiene Society for your decision to establish a permanent scholarship fund for students at Wayne State or Univ. of Michigan in the name of the Society. The name of the scholarship will be, "Michigan Industrial Hygiene Society Merit Scholarship". While a number of local sections of AIHA have been very supportive and have provided funding for scholarships on an annual basis, the MIHS is the FIRST local section to fund a permanently endowed scholarship. And, because of the timing, we have included the scholarship in our application announcements just sent out, so the first scholarship award will be announced at the AIHCE next May! We appreciate the contributions from all the individuals and the overall Society membership that made this scholarship happen. This will make a big difference in the lives of many students over the years, and helps the Foundation in its mission to ensure the future of industrial hygiene through financial support to IH students. Thanks to you, and all the members of the Michigan Industrial Hygiene Society, for your generous support!
