The MIHS Special Service Award is awarded to a person for their extraordinary loyalty, dedication and support to the Michigan Industrial Hygiene Society.

At the 2006 MIHS Mini-Conference, Sharkey Mingela presented this award to Jay Fitzgerald, of The Argus Group.

To quote Pat Brogan's article in the Summer 2004 MIHS Newsletter:
"Those of us who have had to opportunity to know Jay for many years have never doubted his commitment to the community and to professional excellence. Jay has held many professional offices and served on many professional boards. He has served as President of the Michigan Industrial Hygiene Society and Chairman of the Southeast Michigan Safety Council. He is a member of the Wayne State University Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences Advisory Board and maintains close relationships with Oakland University and Eastern Michigan University." He also regularly contributes to the MIHS Matching Grants to Universities Program.

The Argus Group also donates the cost of the monthy fees for the MIHS website.
